Ok, overdue for another update. Mid-June I was on the Gustavus Adolphus campus in St. Peter for a few days for the WELS worship conference. I attended a number of presentations and also sang in the festival and praetorius choirs. Some of the workshops/presentations weren't that great or they were interesting, but not very practical. The worship services were pretty good though, quite refreshing. One interesting thing that I remember is a statement someone made. I don't remember if it was during a sermon or a plenary address or whenever, but it was that the main purpose of a church service isn't the sermon, the pastor, what you or I get out of it, the music, etc., but the main purpose is worship. I thought it was an interesting perspective, considering my probably career as a church musician.

Last week was interesting as far as work was concerned. It was the first time they sent me off on my own to go do something. Wasn't all that interesting though, just fixing a buried soaker hose and laying some grass seed. It was the week of car mishaps though. We were on our way to a job site, and were a couple blocks away. Just off the side of the road there's a road work sign laying flat on the shoulder, the back wheel of the truck we were in went over the edge of it and it sliced the tire open. Of course, the truck we were in is an old F250, and it didn't have a spare. The next day, we're at the same house. There's some other guy there working on their sound system. Our Ford Ranger was parked on the side of the road opposite the driveway. As the sound guy was backing his van out of the driveway, he wasn't looking behind him and he made a nice dent in the side of the Ranger. This week hasn't been fun at work...much too hot to be working outside. Shoveling rock with temps in the 90s with dew points in the 70s combining for heat indices over 100.

This weekend was fun. We had a little family reuning with most of my aunts and uncles and cousins on my dad's side were at our house. I felt like Gulliver....8 different little cousins, and Nomi's favorite past-time was to sic them all on me, "Let's go tickle Andrew!!" and then leave me with the hyper bunch. They also picked a weekend when I was playing for church at Ascension (my home church) and they had me play a couple of my recital pieces after the service. Then lots of food at our house and talking and visiting with all the relatives.

That's about all the excitement for now, will be back in Lincoln in a little over 2 weeks...on Aug. 18.

I think that perhaps that one of the reasons that I don't really write in journals much, paper or online, is because for some reason I feel that journal posts need to have some deep meaning to them, something philisophical. I don't know why I feel this way, perhaps it's because if I can write something meaningful, then in some way it makes it seem like my life has meaning. But at the same time, I'm not worried, at least consciously, about whether or not my life has meaning, because I know that it does. Meaning is all around...in my faith first and foremost, and also in my friends and family.

I think another reason why I don't write in journals often is because at times it seems like my life is very repetitive and predictable aka boring. Granted, it isn't always, but there are times when it seems like I wake up, go to work, come home, sleep.... lather, rinse and repeat. And what's the point in posting or writing something if the same thing is going to happen the rest of the days in the week?

In other news, it has been much too hot this week at work. I think about every day has been over 90, with dew points close to 70. These are not fun working conditions when you are outside doing landscaping work. Also, I finished the puzzle that I've been working on when watching TV or talking online, etc. Big 1000 piece puzzle with lots of nasty spots that have no distinguishable features. It's missing 3 pieces though...oh well.

My sister just pulled out another 1000 piecer for me to do. 1 month and 4 days.....

wow..someone else (hello darion, didn't even know you had a xanga) subscribed to my xanga....which means more than one person does read this thing. guess that means i should update more often. it is finally the weekend. i was going to be going over to my cousins' house (a few blocks away) to do some yard work today, but i got a call from them yesterday that they got most of it done. no working out in humid 90s, which is a good thing. other things to do today, bank, haircut, practice and laundry. working fulltime is nice for the money, but stuff like mulching or trimming gets old after a while...oh well, only 4 more (non-consecutive)  weeks there.

in other news, today is saturday, july 9th. that means that pam and i have been together for 10 months. we got to see each other almost every weekend in june, but now we're on a long stretch since we won't be able to see each other until moving back into the dorms. 1 month 9 days and counting.....

ok. finally updating this. not like it matters that much since there's only one person who reads it, but anyway. i know it's been a long time since the last post, so i'm not even going to try and sum up everything between now and then. i'm home working for the summer. i have a job at a landscaping/nursery place. basically, we go around and plant/water/weed/mow/etc. for really really rich people with some landscaping projects for them as well. it's not a bad job, full time. weather can be uncooperative though. and i'm getting a wonderful farmers tan and my hair's bleaching. i was in colorado springs this week for the regional AGO (American Guild of Organists) convention. drove out with john, the other undergrad organ student with me at UNL. that meant going through omaha which meant spending time with pam, always a plus. we went and got sunglasses and went to see bewitched when i was in omaha before the convention. stayed for a couple days afterwards. we watched serendipity, put a 1000 piece puzzle together, went to see shakespeare on the green - they were doing othello- and then fireworks afterwards. oh, and we went on walks in the evening....and saw fireflies! the convention was good. the workshops weren't that great, but the recitals were wonderful. also, we had free lodging as we were staying with family friends--nice house. also saw the chihuly (best US glass sculptor) exhibit at the colorado springs fine arts museum. was a good time. that's all for now. if you're lucky, i'll update more often and things will be more detailed, but i'm feeling too lazy to go into detailed descriptions of the past week at the moment.

Almost time to go back to school...packing up stuff and doing last loads of laundry right now. hopefully i'll be driving down to omaha tomorrow to stay at pam's house for a few days before moving back into the dorms. the weather is looking a little iffy right now, supposed to start snowing and raining in iowa and surrounding areas around 6 or so and going on through wed. dropping 6-10 inches of snow. hopefully i'll be leaving around 10 tomorrow morning and get there before it starts, but will have to check the weather in the morning about that. in other more recent developments of the past few minutes...travel to omaha is brought into question and we are currently awaiting news of a long talk taking place in omaha at the moment. my day had been going really well up til now...and now i don't know what to think...i just hope everything's all right.
